paella party

I recently attended an event hosted by the Portland Culinary Alliance…which is a wonderful non-profit group that explores the gourmet food scene here in the Pacific Northwest. As per usual, the PCA event was a great opportunity to network with professionals in the food and wine business. But, also as per usual, it was a great opportunity to sample amazing food.

In this case, our meal was prepared by Scott Ketterman. You may be familiar with Scott from the well-known, and well-loved Simpatica Dining Hall. However, you may not be aware that Scott has a new enterprise called Crown Paella; a catering company that focuses on this Spanish specialty. The paella was totally authentic, made with rabbit and snails. Scott rounded out the meal with a Padron pepper sauté and a salad of heirloom tomatoes. Though the food was top notch, an even bigger treat was the opportunity to watch and chat with Scott as he cooked our paella dinner.

You can actually catch a glimpse of me in the background of this photo snapped by Chris Angelus, a talented food photographer here in the Portland area. It’s been a hoot to see this photo pop up on various foodie sites here in Portland, including Portland Food Adventures and Eater Portland. Thanks Chris!
